Hi from Christine
Here at the Station we like to experiment every now and then.
That's why I'm writing this newsletter. If you haven't met
me yet, catch up with me on Thursday 27 November, 6pm at Harlequin
Theatre for The 2008 ARROW FM Rampage Awards and Christmas
Pentathlete Meet. Attendance is an essential part of being
a programme maker. Entries for this auspicious occasion are
being taken now (please make sure you have RSVPeed, or you
will be automatically disqualified from the Rehydration Event).
In plain English we are having an end of year celebration
and would love to see you there.

Heke,
Raro, Barry & Joe
Just over a year ago, the organising committee
of The Waingawa Freezing Works Reunion joined the ARROW Team
and began a weekly radio broadcast, not only to encourage
attendance at the reunion but also to reminisce about their
years at the Freezing Works. At times the graphic details
of the chain gang might have left nothing to the imagination,
but that's what life in the freezing works was really like.
A huge reunion was held at Labour Weekend and Joe, Raro, Heke
and Barry have just wrapped up their final show. In true Access
broadcaster style they are now looking at possible formats
for a new programme.
ACAB Conference
Back in September, Access Manawatu hosted the 2008 ACAB Conference,
smartly subtitled "Back to Basics". (no this did
not mean that we all slept in tents at the local camping ground
and had only cold showers. But it did mean we had to make
our own entertainment.!!!!!).
Programme Makers, Assistant Managers, Board Members, Managers
and other VIPs listened to speeches (only from politicians),
attended workshops, listened to a few more speeches and even
found some time to revitalize themselves with delicious food
and drink. Workshops covered an expansive range of topics
including the implications of new(ish) technology such as
podcasting and streaming; fundraising (dear to our hearts)
and branding (no mention of docking, though)
The conference is always a great opportunity to meet other
people doing similar things in their communities. Next year
it's being held in Auckland. Put it on your list of "things
to do".
ARROW FM continues to be supported
by the various trusts and other funding organisations that
we apply to for funding to help keep the station operating.
A huge vote of thanks goes to:
